What these offices are for

Enforcement and Removal Operations, ERO, is the part of ICE that runs immigration detention. It operates 24 field offices, and the one responsible for the area where a person is detained is the office that handles their case. That is the office to contact about a bond, about a case, or when a detention facility cannot answer your question.

Since April 2023 immigration bonds are posted through CeBONDS, ICE's online system, and paid by Fedwire or ACH bank transfer. You do not post a bond at a detention facility, and paying in person at an ICE office is now a case-by-case exception rather than the normal route. ICE's own guidance is to contact the nearest field office when you need that exception, when the system cannot locate a detained person, or when you have a question the facility will not answer. That is what this list is for.

Which office covers your state?

Taken from the Area of Responsibility that ICE publishes for each office. Where a state is split between offices, the split is ICE's, and the part that matters is where the person is detained, not where you live.

Two things worth knowing. Texas is divided between five offices and California between three, so for those states the detention location decides everything. And Nevada is run out of Salt Lake City, not a Nevada office, which surprises most families in Las Vegas.
