San Diego is the county where a jail search and an immigration search most often need to happen together. The Otay Mesa Detention Center sits in the same county, and someone booked into a county jail here can be transferred into immigration custody quickly. Use the official search run by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, linked on this page. Search by last name only at first. Booking clerks routinely enter names in the wrong order or drop a second surname, so a full-name search can return nothing when the person is actually there.

How long before someone shows up in the San Diego County search?
Booking takes time. It is normally a few hours between an arrest and the person appearing in any public search, and it can be longer if the arrest happened overnight or at a weekend. An empty result in the first few hours does not mean something has gone wrong.
What if the search stops showing them?
That usually means a transfer rather than a release. People are moved between city and county jails, picked up on federal holds, or handed to immigration, and each move removes them from the system you were checking before they appear in the next one. What if immigration has a hold on them?
A county jail can hold someone for immigration after their local case is resolved, and at that point the county search stops being the right place to look. Immigration custody is tracked nationally, not by the county. If that is what happened, the ICE Online Detainee Locator is the system that follows the person.
How much does a bail bond cost in California?
California caps what a bail agent may charge as a percentage of the bond, so the price is not really negotiable at the top end. Anyone quoting far below the cap is either adding fees elsewhere or is not licensed. We will put every cost in writing before you sign anything.
